Task Force Meetings

The Community and Economic Development Office focuses on planning and development to facilitate orderly, responsible growth. This office also assists companies who wish to create or expand businesses and jobs in Floyd County. Staff also works to encourage geotourism in the County. For more information, please see Business Development or the Visitor Page, or call (540) 745-9300.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Floyd County Administration building at 120 West Oxford Street in Floyd. The meeting is open to the public and includes a public comment period time.

Items to be considered by the Planning Commission must be submitted to the Subdivision Agent by the second Tuesday of that month, so that they can be sent out in the mailing to the Planning Commission.

Please note that the Planning Commission and Subdivision Agent have 60 days after receiving a complete plat package to review any plat. Furthermore, if state agency approval is needed, the Commission and Agent shall have an additional 45 days after receiving State Agency(s) opinion to complete the local review.

Task Force Reports

Land Policy Task Force
The Floyd County Land Policy Task Force was established in 2011 pursuant to the Comprehensive Plan revision process. Members were selected following the Common Ground and community planning meetings according to expertise, interest and geographic representation in the County. These volunteers met at least monthly for over 18 months and have spent at least a hundred hours in meetings sorting through difficult issues with no easy solutions. This report is a brief summary of recommendations, plus a short, suggested action plan for the next 12 months.

Agricultural and Forestry Viability Task Force
The Floyd County Agricultural and Forestry Viability Task Force was established in 2011 pursuant to the Comprehensive Plan revision process. Members were selected following the Common Ground and community planning meetings according to expertise, interest and geographic representation in the County. The Agricultural and Forest Viability Task Force has recommended a series of strategies that can help the long-term viability of farming and forestry in Floyd County. The following strategies are on based on more than 16 months of  assessment and dialogue.
