Our History
The Floyd/Floyd County Parks & Recreational Authority was created by the Town and County of Floyd in December 1984 to operate independently of local governments.
Seven Board Members are required on the Board with five being appointed by the Floyd County Board of Supervisors and two from the Town of Floyd. This is a volunteer Board and they do not receive any monetary reimbursement for their time.
The Authority owns and operates a 42 acre park near the Town of Floyd which was built to serve the citizens of Floyd County. The Park is a valuable asset to Floyd County and we hope that it will enhance economic development and growth for our county.
The Authority is not a department of the Town or County, therefore we are not fully funded. We have to solicit private donations, charge participation fees, fund raise and depend on volunteerism from our citizens.
Our Commitment
In a rural area such as Floyd County sports and recreational activities are a vital part of the community. Last year more than 3,000 children and adults participated in the Authority's programs. Our programs help develop good citizenship, responsibility, sportsmanship and strong character.
The recreation activities provided are an excellent way to promote community involvement. The greatest asset to our programs is the partnership with our community businesses and organizations. Our existence and strength comes from our many dedicated volunteers.
We are committed that every child and adult in Floyd/Floyd County has the opportunity to participate in any of our sports and recreational activities.
