The Community and Economic Development Office focuses on planning and development to facilitate orderly, responsible growth. This office also assists companies who wish to create or expand businesses and jobs in Floyd County. Staff also works to encourage geotourism in the County. The Floyd County Economic Development Director serves as staff to the Economic Development Authority and the Planning Commission. Each meeting is open to the public.

The Economic Development Authority meets at 6:00 pm on the fourth Monday of each month at the Floyd Innovation Center, 158 Pioneer Way, Floyd, VA 24091.

The Planning Commission meets at 6pm on the third Tuesday of each month at the Floyd County Administrative building, 120 West Oxford Street, Floyd, VA 24091.

Items to be considered by the Planning Commission must be submitted to the Subdivision Agent by the second Tuesday of that month, so that they can be sent out in the mailing to the Planning Commission. Please note that the Planning Commission and Subdivision Agent have 60 days after receiving a complete plat package to review any plat. Furthermore, if state agency approval is needed, the Commission and Agent shall have an additional 45 days after receiving State Agency(s) opinion to complete the local review.
